Tips for capturing your first settlement please! As you need it to become a kingdom, so cant raise an army, therefore have limited troops (say130 ish) as nobody will follow you. Playing on realistic and would rather find a way that doesnt involve temporarily dropping the difficulty if possible.

Settlements that are low in Prosperity get a Loyalty penalty. Villages that were raided or the town/castle being pillaged can cause this. It's micromanaging and the people are fickle, but building certain things and choosing the right bonus will help. Build gardens to generate more food, build fairgrounds to earn more Loyalty, choose the bonus
When you are ready and have reached clan tier 4, find your faction leader and enter the Kingdom tab (bottom left corner of the screen). In the upper right part of the menu, you will see a red button that says “Leave Kingdom”. After you select it, click the “Keep all holdings” choice and “Confirm”.

Keep the villages raided. Most settlement food production comes from the villages and a starving settlement takes a substantial malus to loyalty, not to mention the malus from low security. This works better than buying all the food, but they will hate you, which is a problem if you want to take over the town.
Hunt down bandits. You can do this yourself or make clan partys. They will patrol your fiefs and hunt them down . This will allow villagers to make it to town and sell food, thus increasing the modifiers of each type of food. Spec to village growth. You can get several perks accelerating village growth mainly in steward.
You can spend 200 influence to force a re-vote on a fief's ownership, then your name will be there. That's how I yoinked 3 castles and 2 cities. Of course their previous owner won't like you much, but screw them, I DESERVE THIS! I did try that. But my name were still not on the voting table. And I agreed, we deserve every settlement we conquered!!!
Not really something like culture changing to the ruling lord after some years 2-3 could be good. More like 100~150 years. Could be less than a dozen with enough effort. Culture changes can happen quite quickly if you know what you're doing. For the purposes of this game a few years might be a reasonable consideration.
One possible fix is to allow us a separate "military storage" that's only available to soldiers, which is filled first and consumed last. That way once settlement food reaches 0, a few civilians will starve but you will still keep the soldiers. #6. Bullshat Apr 6, 2020 @ 6:29am.
