I have owned a hydra for years but never use it. I use the buzzard all the time because it's so simple to fly and shoot rockets if you need to. I feel like I see other players with Hydras dropping bombs though, instead of just the rockets. How do they do that? The Funk Flex DLC allowed you to upgrade your Hydra to drop bombs.

You have to manually switch the jets from landing mode to flying mode. I believe the default keys are NUMPAD 8 and NUMPAD 2. Use NUMPAD 8 to move the jets to forward flying position, allowing you to fly the Hydra like a regular plane. Use NUMPAD 2 to lower the jets into landing mode, which then allows the Hydra to maneuver like a helicopter.

Wrong controlls. To change to forward flight you push and hold the Right Stick forward until the Image "Jumps", to return to Hover push and hold the Right Stick backwards until the image "jumps". I love it. Hover mode is so awesome. Like u/TH3GOLIATH said it's a bit bulkier, but like he said too it's top speed is about the same. So normal flight mode is pretty similair but it also has hover mode which makes it just epic.

Even with the gear up, in jet mode, at full throttle, the Lazers can easily catch up to the Hydra, even from a good distance away. I've noticed the Hydra goes much faster in freeroam though, so I'm guessing the mission was adjusted to make catching up to the Hydra easier, since the Lazers are supposed to assist it, and escort it to the drop off.
